3 Reasons American Waterproof Floors Are Better
American manufacturing is making a comeback and flooring is leading the way
When shopping for flooring, there are many important factors to consider. One that often gets overlooked is where the products were manufactured. Unfortunately, in this race to the bottom game of cutting corners to lower costs and inflate profits, overseas manufacturing standards have tumbled, opening the window for American companies to compete again.

Driven by technology, American manufacturing is making a comeback and the results are impressive. Here we dive into some of the reasons buying American is more than just a patriotic thing to say.
1. Quality Control
The number one reason to buy American made flooring is the rigorous quality control process. Typically, imported products are manufactured to comply with the minimum manufacturing standards set by organizations such as FloorScore. However, meeting the bare minimum only means the products are allowed in the country; it doesn’t mean you are buying a product that’s going to survive your lifestyle.
American manufacturing simply holds itself to a higher standard. Rather than meet the bare minimum standard, factories calibrate their machines to produce products at least twice the FloorScore minimums, and often as much as 4 times the requirements. Quality control stations are set up throughout each facility, pulling randomized samples from every batch for testing. The floors are simply constructed better and designed to last longer.
2. Inventory Management
Too many times flooring customers spend days, or even weeks, agonizing over finding exactly the right color and product. Finally, they make a decision and are ready to move forward with their floor replacement only to learn the flooring is out of stock and on back order. Now, instead of excitement for their new flooring, they have to make another difficult decision: wait 3 months for the flooring they selected to arrive from overseas or start over and try to fall in love with another color.
The delay isn’t due to production times, it’s usually due to shipping. This issue is eliminated with American-made waterproof products. The time for the factory to produce new flooring is only a few days, meaning there’s never a delay in replenishing inventory. Your selection will always be available in a matter of days instead of weeks or months.
3. American Manufacturing Jobs
Organized labor forced rising labor costs throughout the 60’s and 70’s. By the 80’s the vast majority of manufacturing jobs were pushed overseas where cheaper labor allowed for more cost effectively produced products. While there has always been political support to bring back American jobs, the economics of manufacturing in the U.S.A. has made it difficult for American manufacturing to compete.
Enter a new era. Over the last couple decades American manufacturing has made a comeback fueled by technology that replaced some of the low paying labor that drove up costs. Now machines do much of the work, while employees do important jobs like quality control, management, technology development and maintenance. This is enabling American manufacturers to compete with overseas companies and provide cost effective, high quality products here in the states, creating thousands of jobs previously done overseas.
